How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select your odds format
  2. Enter the line (e.g., 2.5 goals or 47.5 points)
  3. Enter the over and under odds
  4. Enter your stake
  5. View payouts, profits and margin

Formula

Payout = Stake × Decimal Odds

Margin = (1 / Over Odds) + (1 / Under Odds) − 1

Lines ending in .5 cannot push. Lines on whole numbers (2.0, 47.0) push if the total lands exactly on the line — the stake is returned.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are over/under bets?

Over/under (also called totals) bets are wagers on whether the combined score, goals or points in a game will be higher (over) or lower (under) than a posted line. Lines like 2.5 (soccer) or 47.5 (NFL) are the most common; the .5 ensures there’s no push outcome.

What happens if the score lands exactly on the line?

If the line is a whole number (e.g., 2.0) and the total exactly matches, the bet pushes — your stake is refunded with no profit. Half-point lines (.5) avoid this entirely. Quarter lines (.25, .75) split your stake so half pushes and half wins or loses.

Why are over/under odds usually around -110?

Bookmakers set the line to attract roughly equal action on both sides. The -110 odds (decimal 1.91) represent the standard 4.5-5% bookmaker margin. Sharp books may offer -105 or even -102 on top markets.

How do you find value in totals?

Compare the bookmaker’s line to a model — Poisson for soccer, points-per-possession for basketball. If your projection differs from the line by more than the margin, it can indicate value. Always shop multiple books for the best line and odds.
