What Are System Bets?
A system bet takes a group of selections and creates every possible combination bet from them. Instead of relying on a single accumulator where every leg must win, system bets spread your risk across multiple smaller combinations.
For example, if you have 4 selections you are confident about, a standard 4-fold accumulator pays out big but only if all 4 win. A Yankee bet on the same 4 selections creates 11 separate bets — 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold — so you still earn returns if only 2 or 3 selections come in. The trade-off is a higher total stake (11 units instead of 1).
Full-Cover Bet Types
System bets are organized by the number of selections:
| Selections | Without Singles | With Singles |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Trixie (4 bets) | Patent (7 bets) |
| 4 | Yankee (11 bets) | Lucky 15 (15 bets) |
| 5 | Super Yankee (26 bets) | Lucky 31 (31 bets) |
| 6 | Heinz (57 bets) | Lucky 63 (63 bets) |
| 7 | Super Heinz (120 bets) | — |
| 8 | Goliath (247 bets) | — |
Without singles: You need at least 2 winning selections to get any return. Higher potential profit per unit staked.
With singles: A single bet is added on each selection, so just 1 winner guarantees a return. Lower risk but higher total stake.
How System Bet Returns Work
Each combination within a system bet is settled independently. If you have a Yankee with 4 selections and 3 of them win, you earn returns from:
- 3 winning doubles (the three pairs of winners)
- 1 winning treble (all three winners combined)
- The four-fold accumulator loses (because one selection lost)
The total return is the sum of all winning combinations. Our calculators break down the return from each bet type so you can see exactly where your profit comes from.
Choosing the Right System Bet
If you want maximum protection, choose a bet type with singles (Patent, Lucky 15, Lucky 31, Lucky 63). You are guaranteed a payout from even a single winner.
If you want higher returns per unit staked, choose a bet type without singles (Trixie, Yankee, Super Yankee, Heinz). You need at least 2 winners, but more of your stake goes toward the higher-paying combinations.
For North American bettors, the Round Robin format lets you choose how many selections go into each parlay, giving you flexible control over your risk and reward profile.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a system bet?
A system bet is a combination bet that covers multiple accumulators from a set of selections. Unlike a standard accumulator where all selections must win, system bets include smaller combinations (doubles, trebles, etc.) so you can still get a return even if one or more selections lose. The trade-off is a higher total stake because you are placing multiple bets.
What is the difference between a full-cover and a part-cover bet?
A full-cover bet includes all possible combination bets from your selections — doubles, trebles, four-folds, and so on up to the accumulator. Examples include Trixie (3 selections), Yankee (4 selections), and Heinz (6 selections). A full-cover with singles also adds a single bet on each selection, giving you a return even if only one selection wins. Examples include Patent (3 selections) and Lucky 15 (4 selections).
What is a Trixie bet?
A Trixie is a full-cover bet on 3 selections, consisting of 4 bets: 3 doubles and 1 treble. At least 2 of your 3 selections must win for you to get a return. It costs 4 units (e.g. $40 at $10 per unit). The Trixie offers higher potential returns than 3 individual singles but requires at least 2 winners.
What is a Patent bet?
A Patent is a full-cover bet with singles on 3 selections, consisting of 7 bets: 3 singles, 3 doubles, and 1 treble. Even if only 1 selection wins, you get a return from the single. It costs 7 units. A Patent gives you more protection than a Trixie because the singles guarantee a return from any winner, but the higher stake means you need good odds to make a profit.
What is a Yankee bet?
A Yankee is a full-cover bet on 4 selections, consisting of 11 bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold accumulator. At least 2 selections must win for a return. It costs 11 units. The Yankee is popular because 4 selections generate a good number of combinations, offering substantial payouts when 3 or all 4 selections win.
What is a Lucky 15 bet?
A Lucky 15 is a full-cover bet with singles on 4 selections, consisting of 15 bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold accumulator. Just 1 winning selection guarantees a return. It costs 15 units. Many bookmakers offer bonuses on Lucky 15 bets — typically a consolation payout if only 1 selection wins and a bonus (often 10-20%) if all 4 win.
What is a Heinz bet?
A Heinz is a full-cover bet on 6 selections, consisting of 57 bets: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds, and 1 six-fold accumulator. At least 2 selections must win for a return. Named after the famous “57 varieties” slogan, the Heinz generates enormous potential returns if most or all selections win, but the 57-unit stake is significant.
How do I choose between system bet types?
Choose based on your number of selections and risk appetite. For 3 selections: Trixie (no singles) or Patent (with singles). For 4 selections: Yankee (no singles) or Lucky 15 (with singles). For 5 selections: Super Yankee/Canadian (no singles) or Lucky 31 (with singles). For 6 selections: Heinz (no singles) or Lucky 63 (with singles). Versions with singles cost more but guarantee a return from just 1 winner.
What is a Round Robin bet?
A Round Robin is a system bet commonly used in North American sports betting. It divides your selections into groups and creates parlays from those groups. For example, a Round Robin with 3 selections creates three 2-team parlays. Unlike UK full-cover bets, you can choose the parlay size (2-team, 3-team, etc.) for your groups.
